Anthony Pieters from Artem Patet is a visual and performance artist. Born and raised on the Gold Coast (Queensland, Australia) Anthony began his art journey from a young age. During his school years, he explored his passion for art and dance, then developed a career in graphic design as an adult.
Anthony’s passion for art and dance never stopped growing. In more recent years he has developed a unique performance act combining the two and performs at many local events and venues on the Gold Coast and in Brisbane.
In 2020, Anthony wanted to focus on developing a body of artworks that would refined his current skills. He also wanted to explore other creative avenues to connect with a new audience.
From this process, he created Artem Patet, which is a collection of contemporary pieces such as artworks, hand painted ceramics and clothing.
Looking to the future, Anthony aims to continue and expand his art by developing a creative visual experiences, through art and performance, that will connect with a national audience.
This collection of artworks is inspired by areal views of the Australian landscape. By using a pallet knife, thick layers of paint are shaped to mimic the patterns of water, sand and rocks.
Some areas in these paintings are also mixed with sand to create rough textures, while smother textures are achieved with paint and a thickener.
The colours in each pieces are chosen specifically for two purposes. The white sections allow the patterns to stand out, while the warm colours imitate the rural landscapes of Australia.
Although the artworks may seem understated from a distance, when you look closer, you see all the intricate details. You may even be tempted to touch the smooth ripples or the rough surfaces! The pieces are meant to be interactive and responsive to the space.
